Privacy Policy for TextRescue Syntix
TextRescue Syntix is a browser extension that automatically saves and restores text typed into web forms. This policy explains what data the extension processes and how it is handled.
Summary: We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data. All saved text is stored locally on your device and encrypted. There are no servers and no cloud sync.
Data we process
The extension may process the following data locally on your device:
- Text you type into supported fields (textarea, text-like inputs, contenteditable).
- Technical identifiers used to map saved text back to the correct field (domain, URL path, field fingerprint).
- Timestamps, text length, and version metadata for history.
- Extension settings and exclusion rules.
How we use data
Data is used only to provide autosave and restore features, show saved versions, and maintain local storage limits. Debug logging is off by default and never logs the text content itself.
Storage and security
- All saved text is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM.
- When a master password is set, the encryption key is derived with PBKDF2 and is not stored.
- Without a master password, a device key is generated and stored locally in the browser profile.
- The extension supports auto-lock and requires re-unlock after inactivity.
Data sharing
We do not share data with third parties. The extension does not send data to any servers. If you click the Donate button, you are taken to PayPal, which is governed by PayPal's own privacy policy.
Permissions
The extension uses permissions needed to detect form input and store encrypted data locally (for example, access to active tab, scripting for content injection, and storage). Host access is used to run on websites where you type.
Data retention and control
- Saved data remains on your device until you delete it.
- You can clear data for a site or for all sites in Settings.
- You can disable autosave or exclude sites at any time.
- You can set a master password to protect access.
Children's privacy
This extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the extension. The effective date will be updated when changes are made.
